Frequently Asked Questions
HOW LONG IS THE PROCESS?
Depending upon the situation, we can place clients within hours or begin the process of determining your loved ones needs, your timeline, and then visit communities. The goal is a smooth transition, but we understand there are times of crisis.
HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE?
Simply said, our services are free. We receive compensation from the senior living communities.
HOW MUCH DOES SENIOR LIVING COST?
Cost for senior living varies, with Independent Living being the least expensive and Memory Care the most. Keep in mind, the more care your loved one needs the more expensive it will be. If you have Long Term Care insurance, some of the cost may be covered depending upon your policy. Most communities are private pay, meaning you pay out of pocket. Medicare does not pay for senior living.
WHAT IF I NEED HELP TODAY?
Call us immediately and we'll get you the help you need. When a loved one is in the hospital or skilled nursing facility, medical staff are helpful in completing the medical paperwork required for the transition to senior living communities.
WHEN IS IT TIME? RED FLAGS?
One of the toughest questions from adult children and seniors alike. When is it time for senior living? For many, the transition to senior living is so overwhelming that people remain in their homes until there is a life changing "event". That event can be a fall that lands them in the hospital or a loved one with memory loss has wandered away from home and gotten lost. Please see our Red Flags section.
HOW DO I BROACH "THE TALK"?
Just when you think you've tackled the harder "talks" with kids or colleagues, now you need to talk to your loved one about senior living communities. But how? Nothing feels so tough as the conversation about senior living. First and foremost, let your loved one know you are worried about them. Share a couple of examples, such as; leaving the stove on, not paying bills, getting lost while driving, forgetting to take medications, a fall etc. Remember, seniors often feel attacked and overwhelmed when their adult children try to convince them to move. Thus, they get defensive and shutdown. Please understand these talks take compassion and real concern on your part. One conversation rarely convinces a senior to move out of their home, but opening the dialogue and engaging them in next steps goes a long way. I can help.
WHO CAN HELP WITH THE MOVE?
We have trusted partners who assist in moving seniors and understand the emotional weight of the transition.
